Recently, four invention patents filed by Beijing Keygen Biomed Co., Ltd., an investee company of Hotgen Biotech, for its self-developed series of small nucleic acid drugs for metabolic diseases were published by the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

The application publication numbers are CN121628900A, CN121825967A, CN121718537A, and CN121628898A.

This patent publication covers core metabolic targets that have been fully validated by human genetics, including PCSK9, LPA, ANGPTL3, and AGT. It marks that Keygen Biomed has completed a full-chain independent intellectual property layout covering molecular sequences, chemical modifications, and clinical indications in the fields of lipid metabolism disorders and blood pressure regulation. This builds a strong patent barrier for the in-depth development of its siRNA pipeline for chronic metabolic diseases.

Chronic metabolic diseases such as hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome have high incidence rates and affect a large patient population. Patients often require lifelong long-term management. Existing traditional treatment options have clear limitations, and clinical pain points remain significant.

Compared with monoclonal antibodies and small-molecule drugs, small nucleic acid drugs have clear targets, strong specificity, and long-lasting efficacy. They can greatly improve patient compliance and reduce the frequency of continuous medication. These advantages are especially important in chronic disease treatment. The large unmet clinical need makes metabolic diseases a major high-potential market in the siRNA field.

At the same time, chronic metabolic diseases in clinical practice often involve high rates of comorbidity and overlapping risks. Large patient populations have both hyperlipidemia and hypertension or mixed hyperlipidemia. Traditional single-target drugs cannot address several metabolic abnormalities at the same time, and long-term combined oral medication has clear compliance limitations.

Real-world research data show that the joint management of multiple metabolic diseases can better prevent cardiovascular events and significantly reduce the incidence and mortality of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Based on a deep understanding of real clinical needs, Keygen Biomed has strategically developed an innovative dual-target metabolic siRNA product line on top of its four mature single-target pipelines. Relying on its own chemical modification and GalNAc delivery platform, the company aims to achieve simultaneous inhibition of two genes. With one injection, it may jointly regulate multiple cardiovascular and metabolic pathways, directly addressing the core treatment pain points of complex metabolic syndrome and building differentiated pipeline competitiveness.

Breakthrough innovation in extrahepatic delivery technology and a comprehensive layout of chronic disease pipelines have become two key standards for evaluating the core strength of small nucleic acid companies and defining their competitive position in the industry.

Keygen Biomed will continue to follow the development concept of differentiated innovation and deep focus on unmet clinical needs. By combining intrahepatic and extrahepatic technology platforms, it will expand the indication map of small nucleic acid drugs and provide long-acting, convenient new treatment solutions for patients with metabolic diseases, hereditary cardiovascular diseases, and other conditions.
